Yahoo Wahoo a Snapping

The week started out calm, with three nice days, before the wind from the north blew Thursday through Saturday. Until the wind slowed the bite, great action for wahoo was reported on the grounds to the north of Punta Gorda, as wahoo were hitting on trolled Rapalas and various bait. Most fish averaged 25 to 35-pounds, though one wahoo weighed over 60 pounds. Some morning charters landed as many as four wahoo.

“COPA BAJA CALIFORNIA SPORTFISHING” Results

There was encouraging news that the yellowfin tuna were biting better the last few days – drift-fishing with strips of squid on the Iman Bank was the most successful. We also saw tuna ranging from 10 to 90-pounds, with an average of 20 to 50-pounds. A couple of charters caught up to 5 fish each, though overall numbers were not high; you had to be patient and be at the right spot when the bite was on. Again, the best action was found early in the morning.

Cabo Billfish & Dorado On-Fire

Anglers saw great action for dorado. Limits were common, with many releases scattered throughout the region. However, small to medium-sized fish were being found closer to shore, and some larger specimens were on the offshore grounds where there were marlin and sailfish. These fish were readily caught with lures and various bait.
Bait supplies consisted of ballyhoo, mullet, slabs of squid, and the sardina also rebounded recently, schooling close to shore near the marina jetties.
