Baja’s Season starts EARLY!
April Fool’s Day has faded into oblivion, leaving behind a great week of spring-like weather with sea temps in the low 70s and calm seas that have settled in for the week. As we mentioned in last week’s report, the striped marlin reappeared, and “La Chingona” released seven at the infamous Punta Gordo Bank, giving the rest of our Pisces fleet something to shoot for.
Go GO GROUPER!
In the 13-year history of Baja Bytes, we can’t recall that we featured Grouper in San Quintin, Bahia de Los Angeles, Loreto, and East Cape in a single issue as well as the spectacular size and the numerous quantities reported in each of the areas.

There’s consistent bottom fishing at Lower 9 Mile Bank. The report also covers fishing conditions at various other locations like Coronado Islands, San Quintin, and more. __JETPACK_AI_ERROR__
Exotics Stay for the Holidays
Large Dorado, wahoo and Yellowfin Tuna underscore a memorable 2023 Holiday Season
Small dorado swarming, hundreds released
Drifting with squid strips has been the most effective way, especially if you have plenty of it for chum. We recommend 4 to 5 kilos of squid per boat for a chance at multiple gigantic fish. Some boats have arrived from the Gordo with two or three 100-pound tuna per day, and most are pushing the mark.
Baja Tuna on my mind…
We also had one weighing 130 pounds landed on Pisces 31’ Ruthless (it was the Top Boat for three consecutive weeks)!
Hilary blows – Baja Bytes
These photos show how the road to Bahia was left after the storm. There is no passing this way for a standard, four-by-four car!
