The week’s highlight was the wahoo that anglers hooked into while trolling closer to Punta Gorda or Cardon. Not the typical season for these highly prized pelagics, but it proves that you can never really know what might happen. These fish prefer warmer waters, but the bite was sporadic daily, and slow trolling live bait was the best bet, particularly the elusive chihuil. We saw one monster 79-pound wahoo landed and several others over 50 pounds, so of the handful brought in, they were of impressive size.

CRAZY MARLIN WEEK IN CABO
Marlin bite picked way up compared to last week. We had 141 Marlin Released total for the fleet, with the Top boats, such as Pisces 37’ BBII releasing 23 Billfish in the week. Their best day they went 10 for 14 on Striped Marlin. Pisces 35’ Bill Collector 2 also did well in the week with 19 Released; going 7 for 9 on their best day. Only one Dorado caught and a few Skipjack Tuna and still a few good inshore catches of Sierra Mackerel, Grouper, Snapper, Ladyfish, Bonita, Triggerfish, etc….Rebecca Ehrenberg
“COPA BAJA CALIFORNIA SPORTFISHING” Results
There was encouraging news that the yellowfin tuna were biting better the last few days – drift-fishing with strips of squid on the Iman Bank was the most successful. We also saw tuna ranging from 10 to 90-pounds, with an average of 20 to 50-pounds. A couple of charters caught up to 5 fish each, though overall numbers were not high; you had to be patient and be at the right spot when the bite was on. Again, the best action was found early in the morning.
Cabo Billfish & Dorado On-Fire
Anglers saw great action for dorado. Limits were common, with many releases scattered throughout the region. However, small to medium-sized fish were being found closer to shore, and some larger specimens were on the offshore grounds where there were marlin and sailfish. These fish were readily caught with lures and various bait.
Bait supplies consisted of ballyhoo, mullet, slabs of squid, and the sardina also rebounded recently, schooling close to shore near the marina jetties.
