The Stars and Stripes Charity Tournament, one of the most unique and successful charity events honoring “It’s all about the Kids,” celebrated its 25th anniversary with nearly a thousand attendees from around the world. Participants traveled to Cabo to help raise funds for those less fortunate and enjoy the many things the area offers.
Over 50 teams participated in the two-day Sportfishing Tournament. It began with a spectacular parachute jump by U.S. Veteran and paraplegic Dana Bowman as he floated toward the beach with the flags of the United States and Mexico fluttering beneath his chute.

Remarkably, 402 anglers signed up for this popular event that had been missed because of COVID-19
It was a short early morning bite but some really quality fish were caught according to Jansen. Overall 62 sierras were brought to the scale.
Baja Tournaments Begin
This past weekend, Lori Heath and I went on a 1.5-day trip on “Old Glory” with Captain Kley Williams, who had received information that there were signs of bluefin and yellowtail southwest of San Diego. So we headed to that zone looking for tuna and yellowtail paddies.
We had good weather and stopped several times in the dark and early morning on deep tuna marks. One angler got hit but did not connect. As the sun came up, we spotted jumping tuna and were excited to know we were in an area holding fish. Late morning we slid up to a kelp paddy, and it was “game on” for 7 to 12-pound yellowtail on flylined sardines, yoyo jigs, colt snipers, and surface irons!

Mex ONE 48 Years Old!
Yellowtail fishing has been solid for medium-sized yellows at the San Bruno reef. Live mackerel gets fished the most for yellowtail and usually gets the best results. Blue and white iron chuckers have also been doing well on the smaller, 12-pounders.
The “hot talk” is about taking the long ride north to hammer the big yellows at Pulpito and the Almejas rock piles. “Let’s go, let’s go” doesn’t mean the fish are hitting the decks, but the time of year is pointing in that direction. As soon as the Christmas tourist rush is over, we should be seeing more big yellows coming in from up north.
