Baja California Sport Fishing Update: May 22, 2024

One of the most unique tournaments in the world, the Marina Puerto Escondido (MPE), held its 5th Annual Tournament on May 17-19, 2024, at Marina Puerto Escondido, Loreto, BCS. Well-known for its camaraderie among its competitors, with good humor, laughter, and teasing, most lighthearted members consider this tournament one of the most novel in Baja.

s week was very productive even though we had a few windy days at the beginning of the week. This made it difficult to reach the Vinorama bank to look for the smaller sized tuna. Our fleet focused mainly on Iman, Fortuna, Cardon, Punta Gorda, and both Inner and Outer Gordos. Some of our boats also continued fishing off Palmilla Point. Even though Palmilla Point has produced some decent wahoo and dorado action, the bigger wahoo are being caught off Iman and Fortuna.

MPE Tournament Time

Mid-May fishing met its expectations regardless of the visiting angler’s anticipations. For the big game addicts, there were striped marlin, yellowfin tuna, skipjack, and nice-sized dorado, all offshore.
For those choosing to remain closer to shore, near the surface, there were roosterfish, jack crevalle, and ladyfish to make for a fun day of PISCES sport fishing.
