please send reports and photos to gary.1940@gmail.com.
The yellows decided to bite for some today.
Coronado Islands
Lower 9 Mile Bank
There is nothing new to report here. The Lower 9 has been holding steady. And it continues to produce a variety of high-quality bottom fish, including large Reds, Boccaccio, Mexicans, Chili Peppers, Lingcod, and more. This area remains a reliable fishing spot.
The bite has been best in deeper water, around 450 to 700 feet. If you’re after Lingcod, the Sand Dabs make great bait and can be found on the hard sandy bottom near the 9 M le Bank. Live mackerel is another solid option.
Slow-pitched jigs are also a killer choice for Lingcod if you prefer to fish with artificial lures.

Coronado Islands / Rockpile
There is a good volume of yellowtail around the Islands and the Rockpile, but the bite has not turned on yet.
The yellowtail caught here has come on live bait, surface irons, and Yoyo irons.
Some common areas to find them include Pukey Point at North Island, throughout the Middle Grounds, and the lee of South Island. Also, don’t count out the flats near the Rockfish and in towards Rosarito in 120-250 feet of water.
A few good ways to stay mobile and find the fish include slow trolling a sardine or mackerel and trolling a Rapala or other deep-diving lure. Keep a Yoyo rod ready to drop on deep sonar marks. There has been some decent fishing for bass, sculpin, sheepshead, and whitefish in this area recently as well.… Fish Dope

The Mulege Area has been red hot for fishing action. After almost 2 decades, the Humboldt Squid are back. Once again, the sea looks like a city at night with all of the commercial pangas on the water. Seems to be good for the fishing as well. We headed out to try our luck. Stopped for a bathroom break on the way to our spot, and Yellowtail started boiling all around us. Cast out a surface iron, and it was fish on! Continued to the pinnacles, and fish finder was full. Loaded up with Yellowtail, big Cabrilla, and red snapper. Many of the yellowtail were coughing up squid when they hit the deck. All caught on MILF Jigs…Nathan Burbey

GORDO BANKS PANGAS

Despite wind conditions limiting offshore fishing for marlin, the Gordo Banks Pangas fleet reported successful fishing action closer to shore. The bigger boats that went offshore focused on the 1150 Bank. They did report seeing many marlin on the surface, though they wouldn’t bite much. One big wahoo, 69.8 pounds was caught at the 1150 Bank while looking for marlin on a rigged ballyhoo.
We had plenty of action at Palmilla Point, Cerro Colorado, and The Westin. On most days, our boats were able to limit on Sierra (Spanish Mackerel). This week, we had a school of quality size Sierras come in as compared to previous weeks where they were running small (2-3 pounds). Most of them were averaging 5-7 pounds, and a handful of them closer to 10 pounds. Fun to fish for these fish with light tackle. We are drifting dead sardines for these Sierras as we continue to see a low supply of live sardines. While drifting over dead sardines, we also saw a handful of small yellowtail, snapper, grouper, and triggerfish. A few boats also tried jigging in 120-140 ft of water at Palmilla point. Not a lot of action on the jigs, though we did see a few nice Amberjack, grouper, and white Bonita.
A few boats were able to get live caballitos and they paid off by trolling them throughout our shoreline for Roosterfish. On Saturday, one of the boats had 8 caballitos and were able to catch and release 7 Roosters within a couple of hours. Most of these Roosters are averaging around 15 pounds, though we are starting to see some nicer ones in the mix, around 30 pounds.
Earlier in the week, when the wind conditions were better, a few boats were able to land quality bottom fish on the jigs throughout different rock structures at Vinorama and San Luis. We saw a good bag of Amberjack, red snapper, grouper, and a couple of nice yellowtail. No tuna were reported this week.
Good Fishing, Brian

Captain Abraham and Mate Lozano, who run the 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, the “KNOT WORKIN,” greeted their group from Hortonville, Wisconsin, David Bedrosian, Nick Bedrosian, Renea Bedrosian, and Zach Bedrosian, as though they were long-time friends and then headed to the 95 Spot where the anglers caught and released Three 100 to 120-pound Striped Marlin on bait. The 95 Spot comes within 95 fathoms of the surface of a 1,200-foot-deep plateau. Plateau: a raised area of land, flat on top, often found in mountainous regions, such as underwater areas. It is located nine miles east of Cabo San Lucas, and species such as Yellowtail, Marlin, Dorado, and Reef Fish, including Roosterfish, Cabrilla, Pargo, and Dog Snapper, can often be found there.
