The Point Loma and IB areas are seeing a slow-to-fair at best fishing for calico and sandbass, plus some large green mackerel and small, short barracuda.
If you want live mackerel for bait, many can be found at the mouth of Mission Bay, and you should be able to jig up all you need. They are the perfect size for lingcod or for slow-trolling at the Coronados. …Fish Dope

Yellowtail fishing has been on the slow side, and that continues to be the case.
Although some guys are still managing to score, many others are not seeing them, nor are they catching any.
Slow-trolled sardine, mackerel, or Rapalas have recently accounted for most of the yellowtail caught. The Lee of South Island continues to be a good location, but some YTs are being found on the ridge running through the Middle Grounds and at Pukey Point on the weather side of North Island.
In other news, a few barracuda have been caught recently, although no volume of those fish has yet been seen.
No big bonito exist in the Islands proper, but larger bonito have been found in the Canyon, just a few miles to the SW.
Lastly, there has been decent bass fishing around the Middle Islands and some at the South Island spots.
Many rockfish, whitefish, and sheepshead are biting at most any deeper rocky spot. …Fish Dope
**** ATTENTION ****
You must stay at least 250 meters (820 feet) away from tuna pens. If you don’t, you risk losing your boat and landing in a Mexican jail.

There has been a nice mixture of bottom fish, with a few yellowtail in the mix as well.

MEXICAN MINUTE LA PAZ FISHING REPORT from Tailhunter Sportfishing for Week of May 23-30, 2024

BREAKING NEWS!!! BIG TUNA ARRIVES AT EAST CAPE, BAJA, CALIFORNIA, MEXICO! On May 26, Michael Mohr, Robert Kope, and Dell Simms, Marine Biologists from the Seattle area, landed the largest tuna in 2024, weighing in at a whopping 187 pounds! Mohr and Kope took turns fighting the giant tuna, taking them ONE and ONE-HALF HOURS to land. While fighting the fish, their rod snapped in half, forcing the anglers to hand-line the fish for the last HALF HOUR. The tuna was hooked on a plain cedar plug.
East Cape action continues to be hot, with anglers landing a wide variety of species that have all arrived here in the Sea of Cortez. The dorado bite has been steady all season, so expect to see it continue into the summer. The tuna are still between 35 and 45 miles out, with the occasional tuna landing much closer to the resorts. The billfish bite has been solid, with many striped marlin spotted in the area and a few sailfish released this week. We continue to see pompano in the area. The pompano have stuck around much longer than we are used to here. Because the bait situation has been so good, many species hang around longer. This week, some nice pargo were brought in, including the one pictured below, which was caught on the cruiser Cazador 2 while they were cleaning the boat in front of the Hotel Palmas De Cortez. There were also many roosterfish, an excellent sign for the International Roosterfish Tournament, with fishing on June 1-3. There were also a few wahoo landed this week, so you can expect a little bit of everything right now as the fishing season takes off.
The air temperature continues to warm, with highs in the mid-90s and overnight lows in the mid-70s. The water temperatures have also increased slightly, with surface temperatures reaching 80 degrees.

GORDO BANKS PANGAS
June 2nd, 2024
It was a quiet week at our local Marina area. The village fiestas of La Playa usually start the last couple of days of May and extend towards the first days of June. This year, the fiestas were delayed a week, so work activities will remain slow. Only moderate numbers of anglers are now in town, taking advantage of calmer weather patterns, sunny skies, and temperatures in the high 80s. Bait supplies included caballito, jurelito, ballyhoo, mullet, moonface, and sardina.

The main focus this week has been the bottom fishing and inshore fishing. The tuna and wahoo bite is almost nonexistent. We only accounted for one yellowfin and one wahoo all week, each weighing under 30 pounds. Most boats focus on different rock structures throughout La Fortuna and Cardon. Fishing bigger live bait has produced big amberjack, grouper, and dogtooth snapper. The biggest amberjack caught was a 76-pounder, while we saw many quality fish over 40 pounds. The favorite bait seems to be caballito and moon-face if we can get some from the bait guys. It is not a guarantee. Live sardina continue to attract good numbers of yellow snapper and grouper.
We had a decent marlin bite throughout most of the week. Many boats focus on the inner and outer Gordos, as plenty of bait seems to be out there. Not a lot of dorado, though some boats were lucky to find small schools while fishing offshore for marlin or inshore for roosterfish. Most of these dorado are small, averaging 10 or 12 pounds, and have mainly been hitting Ballyhoo and marlin lures.
Closer to shore, we are starting to see big Roosters. The biggest one was well over 60 pounds, caught on a live mullet. The best areas to target these Roosters are La Laguna and Zacaton. While trolling live sardina and mullet throughout these shorelines, we can pick up a few dorado. …Good Fishing, Brian Brictson

Pisces Sportfishing Report May 24-30th 2024 update
22nd Week of 2024 Overall Catch Success Rate, All Species Combined 100%
Catch Success Rate, Billfish, 89.06%, Dorado 39.06% Tuna 20.31% Other Species 31.25%

After almost a month of our Pisces fleet bouncing around different banks, the 1150 Bank has recently become the “go-to” spot for most of our bluewater fleet. It is off the coast, about 20 to 25 miles out, between the San Lucas and San Jose Marinas, with characteristics of the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean, and is known as an excellent spot for marlin and tuna fishing. If history repeats, June will be exciting for billfish and yellowfin tuna fishing.
Some of the highlights of our boats’ successes last week are examples of what anglers can anticipate during the upcoming week.
