6th Annual Van Wormer Resorts Wahoo Gold Cup – August 20th – (Palmas De Cortez & Playa Del Sol).  Hosted by Capt. Kit Mc Near, this tournament is the same format as the Dorado Shoot Out.  It is a one day tournament.  Heaviest wahoo wins!  $600 per team entry fee.  There will be over 100,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs.

This is the 6th Annual East Cape Gold Cup Wahoo Jackpot Tournament.  

The tournament format will be the same as the Dorado Shoot Out except this time its the Biggest Wahoo will win. The heaviest Wahoo caught on August 20, 2022 will win a 2022 Volkswagon Polo.  This is a one day tournament, so anyone can win.  If you are entered in the tournament and you catch the heaviest Wahoo on August 20, 2022 you will walk away with a 2022 VW Polo.

There will be over $100,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs including great raffle prizes, return trips including fishing and much more. Entry fee is only $600 per team and includes dinner at the awards ceremony. Terrific prizes for the top three teams that catch the largest wahoo.  There will also be prizes for the largest Dorado and Tuna.  Optional Cash Jackpots of $200, $300 and $500 and $1,000 jackpot with an 85% return rate.

57-Pound Dorado Scores Nearly HALF MILLION Payout

Seventeen years ago, Palmas de Cortez established the Dorado Shootout. Over the years, it has become one of the largest fishing tournaments in Southern Baja, with an average turnout of 130 teams each year. However, this year the event set a new attendance record of 147 Teams that plunked down their base entry fee of $600 to compete for the $323,000 cash payout, in addition to a SUV valued at $47,000, plus Jackpots, clothing, etc. which drives up the total winnings nearly ONE-HALF MILLION DOLLARS – one of the largest payouts in any Dorado Tournament in the world.

Overshadowing the recent Marina Puerto Escondido Tournament held in May that awarded Team “Pink Bullet” $232, 150.00 for their 42.3-pound dorado.
Was the 57-pound Dorado caught on Saturday July 16. Caught by the lucky angler, well known Esual Valdez of the Valdez Family that owns the Buena Vista Oceanfront & and Hot Springs Resort.

A tournament record 147 teams, 510 participants

There were 45 dorado weighed. 21 were 40 lbs or larger, 42 were over 30 lbs. Jackpots of $200, $300, $500, $1000 and $2000 paid out $275,230 usd. The winner was team La Buena Vida from Spa Buena Vista. Angler was Esaul Valdez. Esaul took first place in the tournament with a 57 lbs. bull dorado. He won the 2022 Volkswagen Amarok valued at $40,000. The team was across the board in all the jackpots and took home $275,230 (pre tax). Second place went to Ken Megaard on Team Tenacious with a 48 lbs. dorado. Third place went to Michael Smith on Team Pursuit with a 47.1lbs. Dorado.
