September 4, 2024…September 4, 2024…Ensenada reported improved action for calico and sand bass closer to shore. Yellowtail and bluefin are in the zone farther out but are more difficult to find. San Quintin hosted the tournament (Torneo 2 Mar-es) last weekend, and the results and other info are included in the link. While over in Bahia de Los Angeles, the dorado bite continues, with some good bottom fishing. A FONMAR event offers various activities at La Bocana from Friday, 09.6.2024, to Sunday, 09.08.2024. At Bahía Asunción, Lopez Mateos, down to the tip of Baja and up into the Sea of Cortez to East Cape, the yellowfin tuna have dazzled locals and visitors alike. If billfish are your thing, the action for sailfish, striped marlin, blue marlin, and a few black marlin at Cabo continues to be impressive. We began the day with some good calico and sand bass fishing off Sauzal; then, we headed in search of yellowtail. Afterward, we looked outside for bluefin. … It’s 4 Reels Sportfishing

We caught a mixed bag of fish plus halibut. Mr. Chris Wheaton, his buddy Earl Worknott, and I fished The Dos Mares Tourney, and we came in 4th Place, so there was no tourney money for us, BUT we did win the bottom fish side Jackpot for a cool 26k pesos with a nice
15-pound-plus lingcod. Chris and Earl, Thank You! And Fishonnn2U, as well! I’ve
got openings in San Quintin. Very good lingcod and redfish, plus a few yellows
around, just for fun. …Captain Juan Cook.

There is not much to report in our nearby waters—same old dorado and yellowtail with a mix of bottom reds, whitefish, and snappers. The action outside of Carmen Island continues to perk at medium heat (I wish I could say the same for the afternoon temperatures).
Things have gotten so predictable that some of our regular blue water adventurers have resorted to dragging Rapalas for yellowfin tuna over on the Pacific side. I don’t know if that is a replacement for a day on the water on this side (the Sea of Cortez)—out at seven and back by noon with tuna!…Rick Hill
Still, crazy Yellowfin Tuna fishing out of Lopez Mateos—Mag Bay with 37 to 40-pounders caught about 10 miles from the Soledad Boca. Otherwise, around the Grouper Rocks—that area is full of Pulpo traps, so be careful of the buoys!….Cheri King, Lopez Mateos Sportfishing +52 613 114 8044, <sannichick@gmail.com>

GORDO BANKS PANGAS

In Memory of Eric Brictson
This Friday, August 30, marks one year of my father, Eric Brictson’s passing. We thank you all for your continued loyalty and support to Gordo Banks Pangas throughout this difficult year. We are committed to continuing his legacy of honest and accurate fishing reports and sportfishing charters. We are writing a shorter-than-usual report this week, and we will be back next Sunday, September 7, with our routine weekly report. Enjoy a few pictures from this week below.
We continue to catch yellowfin tuna offshore with porpoise schools. Most of these schools were found closer to Cabrillo this week. This weekend, we saw a handful of fish over the 100-pound mark, the biggest around 160 to 170 pounds.

There was a spotty wahoo bite at San Luis and Iman. Most of the strikes came on XRaps (greenish color) and rigged ballyhoo/live caballito. On Thursday, captain Tony on the Hooker was able to land four nice wahoo while losing a couple more. The bite remained spotty throughout the weekend. More dorado and marlin (striped and blue) were caught closer to shore, anywhere from 10 to 12 miles out from our marina. Good areas to start were towards Palmilla Point, heading towards Gordo Banks, and vice versa.…Good Fishing, Brian Brictson

Pisces Sportfishing Fleet Update August 23-29,2024
August 23 to 29, 2024 Overall Catch Success Rate, All Species Combined 98%
Catch Success Rate 98%, Billfish, 74%, Dorado 20%, Tuna 28%, Other
Although Yellowfin Tuna and Billfish dominated the catch this week, the Yellowfin Tuna caught by the Pisces boats were as large as 180 pounds, and there was an increased number of Wahoo.

Another popular release target for many of our clients was Roosterfish. The Dorado featured more of a bull category, though plenty of the smaller ones were released. We anticipate another exciting week with favorable weather and many species to target. If you are still looking for a bucket list of candidates to chase, “suerte,” we hope to see you at the scales.
