.There has been a good signal of yellows at both locations, but South Island has been the best spot over the last few days. The Lighthouse Kelp to SKR has seen good volume, with yellows caught on surface iron, Yoyo iron, and flyline sardine. The bite here is best when there is current running. When there is no current, the bite is on the slow side.
The Rockpile has a good volume of fish, primarily sonar schools, with a few surface signs.

MEXICA MINUTE LA PAZ FISHING REPORT from Tailhunter Sportfishing for the Week of April 19-27, 2024
As the Van Wormer Resorts fishing fleet prepares for the 2024 Fishing Season, the spring time fishing is off to a pretty good start. Currently this week we have seen many dorado in the area. There has been plenty of bait around, including balihoo, mackerel and sardinas. This has attracted Dorado and Striped Marlin to the south of the resorts, in front of the La Ribera Bank. Most of the fishing has been to the south of the resorts where in addition to dorado and striped marlin, the fleet has gotten into grouper, snapper and pompano. To the north they have seen some roosters and a few grouper and snapper as well.
Water temps have been warming, where we saw 70-75 last week, we are seeing 80 this week in some areas. Air temps have been in the low 80’s with lows in the upper 60s. It’s a great time to be in the East Cape and we look forward to seeing you here soon!…Annibal Miranda

Despite ideal weather conditions and a good variety of fish species on our local grounds, we have seen limited numbers of anglers. We are beginning to experience hotter sunny days with temperatures in the high 80s, and we should see days in the low 90s in no time.
Our yellowfin tuna bite slowed down significantly this week. The best days for tuna were Monday and Tuesday. Most were medium-sized, averaging around 30 to 40 pounds, though some excellent fish were still in the mix. The largest one caught this week was 125 pounds coming from Iman Bank. Most of this action came from live and dead sardine. A few boats started using squid strips, although we heard of several boats hooking into bigger fish. Throughout mid-week and this weekend, we only saw a few tuna per day.
Due to the slow tuna bite, most boats focused on bottom and inshore action. The best action seemed to be coming from rock structures at Cardon. We continue to see good numbers of yellow snapper, leopard grouper, amberjack, and triggerfish. We primarily use live sardine to fish the bottom, yet we have caught a few nicer grouper on jigs.
We continue catching Spanish mackerel (sierra), jacks, and roosterfish closer to shore, and we are now seeing bigger roosters in the area. A couple of Captains reported 30 to 40-pounders were caught and released. This has been a slow week for dorado and wahoo, as we only saw a handful caught throughout the week. Most wahoo caught come from Iman while fishing for tuna with live sardine. The best chance for a dorado was closer to shore.…Good Fishing Brian Brictson

Our week began with a breezy start, with 5 to 6-foot waves by mid-morning. Our fleet headed out in different directions to various banks, but Captain Jamie and his Mate Luis, aboard the “CALIENTE,” a 42-foot Cabo Flybridge, scanned the horizon as they sped toward the infamous Punta Gorda, where the stripers had been hanging out. The day’s group, Jason Clark, Joey May, John Cordosa, Mason Cooksfu, Mike Cordosa, and Ralph Belfatti, from Jacksonville Beach, Florida, were astonished at the large number of birds hovering over the bait schools seen in the distance as they arrived.
Throughout the day, there were a few hits and misses, yet they still managed to catch and release three striped marlin estimated to weigh between 80 and 1oo pounds. The noise of the six red and white “catch and release” flags flapping in the wind on the outrigger was their anthem as they relived the day’s events on the way back to the Pisces Marina.
