So the bait balls have disappeared for the most part, which is unusual for this time of the year. The marlin are out there, but we are not able to catch in high numbers. Baja California (Norte), Zacatecas both regress to red on the coronavirus stoplight map…
The new stoplight map shows two states at maximum risk, 24 at high, three at medium, and three at low.
The risk level declined to high in Chihuahua and Durango while Veracruz goes green.
Baja California (Norte) and Zacatecas both regress to red light – “maximum” risk on the coronavirus stoplight system while Veracruz will become the third green light “low” risk state, the federal Health Ministry announced Friday as Mexico recorded its highest single-day case tally of the pandemic.
As of Monday, Baja California (Norte only) and Zacatecas will be the only red light states in the country as the two current ones, Chihuahua and Durango will revert to the orange light “high” risk level.

Nice weather but there’s still not any reports about surface activity this weekend.
The hard bottom, between the kelp and out to the Coronados has been giving up some sand bass and halibut.
When the yellows do show this time of the year, some are deep and are being found on sonar marks. They are being caught on yoyo iron with some coming up on micro bait under birds which can be caught on surface iron… Fish Dope
Coronado Islands / Rockpile
Lots of bonito are all around the islands proper. Most of the bonito are on the smaller side but there are some mid-grade in the 5- to 8-pound range mixed in, enough to keep it fun and interesting. Only one or two yellowtail have been caught that we’ve heard of, so there’s not really any way to target them; it’s blind luck when you stumble across one at any of the usual island spots like Pukey, the weather side of North Island, or the Middle Grounds.
Otherwise, the focus is mostly on rockfish, with whitefish and sheepshead usually biting on the 80- to 200-foot spots closer to the islands and in the Middle Grounds, and more reds, coppers, bocaccio, etc., in over 200-foot drops. The 280-foot zone outside North Island bit well for nice reds today.….Fish Dope

Out fishing with my friend, Drew Kodl, aka “Drew Da’ Farmer.” It was a cold morning, (at the ramp it was 32 degrees). The Parker was iced up and my power steering was not working right due to the cold – none the less it was a very nice crispy morning. We made bait in the bay which was slow but doable. Then we headed out to the 6-fathom spot looking for winter yellowtail. The reef was full of bait and fish but we didn’t connect on a tail; next, we went to Isla San Martin looking for halibut; they were not in yet. Twelve miles later we were at the Breakers Reef, and it was slow on the tails as well. We went deep dropping and found a spot loaded with big lingcod and we caught our limits and headed for a warm bar.

We caught a nice mixed bag on the kayak today. It started out cool but warmed up quickly. It was like a millpond out there, with very little wind, glassy beautiful water, and willing fish. A guy gave me a few lobsters that had been picked on by sheepshead a few days ago at the ramp. They have to be in perfect condition to sell, and the sheepshead hang out by the traps and chew off any parts they can get to. I saved some head and leg parts from the lobsters, and for a while today I played ‘vigilencia’ for the langosteros and took out a few lobster-pickin’ goats for them. The yellow was 36″ long and weighed around 18 pounds or so, to put the size into perspective…Daniel Powell

Yellowtail and cabrilla are churning up the waters down south in the same spots as last week. Sardina are the best bet either fly-lined or slow-trolled. The yellowtail are in the 10- to 12-pound range and a handful of 10-pound class cabrilla were landed.
The yellowtail are working their way around Danzante Island but the coastline of Carmen Island near Danzante is also productive. Sierra have been hitting up and down the coast from the arroyo south almost to Loreto Bay. Live sardina are working well along with any cast bait with lots of shine.
Six-inch hard bait of all descriptions are deadly for the schooling sierra. My favorite sierra weapon is a chrome torpedo sinker with a little mylar flash. Effective, it’s only about a quarter of the cost of your favorite plug that just got chewed off the line. The north winds have been a problem all week keeping most boats close to shore. MEXICAN MINUTE LA PAZ FISHING REPORT from Tailhunter Sportfishing for Week of Nov. 26 -Dec. 3, 2020
East Cape

Anglers were able to find a plentiful supply of sardina, with caballito, ballyhoo, and slabs of squid being other options. More of the super panga charters are now trying to chum up chihuil baitfish on the Inner Gordo Bank, though this has not been all that easy or guaranteed with choppy conditions. These baitfish were now the best bet for enticing the elusive wahoo. Early in the week, we saw larger numbers of wahoo being brought in, with sizes ranging from small five-pound juveniles, up to 50-pound trophy-sized specimens. Areas from Cardon, La Fortuna to Vinorama produced strikes while trolling bait or Rapalas. Though this same area is now seeing greenish cooler currents push in.
The week also began with a pair of super cow-sized 300-pound yellowfin tuna being landed from off the Gordo Banks by local pangeros specifically targeting these cows. A lot of patience was needed when targeting these fish – they used live skipjack for bait. The rest of the week we only saw a handful of other tuna accounted for, several were near 100-pounds.
Though overall the action for these yellowfin has been very slow and north winds have made the whole deal that much more difficult. Everyone is waiting for calmer conditions and it looks as though the coming week will at least start out calmer.
Dorado were even scarcer this past week. Only a handful of these gamefish were even found, and no large schools were seen at all; they were mainly smaller-sized. The past few seasons, the month of December has been very productive for nicer-sized dorado, so we are hoping this year things are just starting out slow, as it is still early in the month. Billfish action was almost nonexistent off San Jose del Cabo, and as there are more chances now for striped marlin on the Pacific grounds, it will not be long before the migration of mackerel and sardineta will shift in the direction of the Sea of Cortez.
Inshore the main action found was sierra, with most of these fish in the 2- to 5-pound range, striking on hoochies, Rapalas, and sardina. Also, a few roosterfish have been accounted for, not the normal season for them, but they can hang around in minimal numbers.
With the windier conditions, anglers were not able to try much bottom action and those who did found more bonito and triggerfish than anything else. We did see a few Almaco jacks and at least a couple of dogtooth snapper brought in …Eric Brictson, Gordo Banks Pangas
Cabo San Lucas
Marlin fishing has been up and down this week. It’s hard to say how it will be this upcoming week, usually at the beginning of December.
Dorado have been very good this week off the Light House and up to Rancho Migrino on lures and live bait.
If you run 12 to 14 miles offshore you have a chance to run into a school of yellowfin tuna on sardina, king busters, and cedar plugs. Most are in the 8- to 14-pound range.
Wahoo, are here and there, you just have to drive over one and hook’em on lures and Rapalas.
Inshore
Good numbers of sierra were caught this week, both from the shore and boats. though there were few roosterfish, few small tuna, and skipjacks
